new Delhi. The Center has started 'One Nation, One Ration Card' in 12 states of the country including Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan gave this information on Tuesday. Currently, this ambitious initiative of the Central Government is being run in a cluster of six states on a pilot basis. The government intends to implement this facility across the country from June 1, 2020.

 A nation, under a ration card initiative, can get ration of its share under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) from any fair price shop in the ration card beneficiary country.

 "We have started ration card portability in 12 states. Beneficiaries can ration their share in any of these states using the existing ration cards," Paswan told reporters. He said that ration card portability has been implemented in 12 states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Jharkhand and Tripura.

 Paswan said that beneficiaries can take only 50 percent of their eligibility at other places. He said that sufficient food grains will be supplied at ration shops to meet the demand. According to government figures, under the NFSA, so far, around 75 crore beneficiaries have been covered against the target of 81.35 crore.
