New Delhi. The Center has decided to extend the validity of documents like driving license, permit and registration from February 1 to June 30. The objective of this initiative is to streamline the movement of essential goods during the ongoing 'lockdown' for the prevention of corona virus infection. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, in a consultation issued to all the states and union territories on Monday, asked them to consider the above mentioned documents as valid till June 30, whose duration expired on February 1. This step has been taken to help citizens who are facing problems in renewing the validity of various documents due to the closure of the transport office during the 'lockdown' under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

The Ministry has said, "All the states are requested that under the Motor Vehicle Act and Rules, they should consider those documents valid till June 30, whose validity expired on February 1, 2020 and could not be renewed due to the nationwide shutdown. Documents whose validity has been extended include fitness certificates, all types of permits, driving licenses, registration or other related documents under the Motor Vehicle Act.
